Alisha Ahmed MA (she/they), is an independent intersectional researcher and scholar, with a focus on gender and queer studies, class relations and critical race theory.
Alisha has been writing intimist poetry about their experience living at the margins of systems of power since the early 2000s and her first LiveJournal.
Since 2008 she has been a writer for multiple music websites, with their work published on the Independent on Sunday (British Sea Power) and with a staff page on God Is In The TV Zine where multiple music reviews and think pieces can still be found.
Her final dissertation for their Master of Arts in Music Business Management focused on Independent Record labels with special attention to the history of Rough Trade Records and their relationship with the acts signed to them.
As a person of Arab heritage living in the UK, Alisha has taken to discuss issues of race, class and gender in essay form since the early 2020s, some published and translated in multiple languages.
Due to their background within the music industry, the most recognisable work they have done considers musicians ad case studies and looks at their career through a feminist, decolonial, anti-capitalist lens.
She is currently working on her first book focused on Beauty Politics and Beauty as Feminine Capital and the consequence for Men in music carrying such capital, with case studies including David Bowie, Brian Molko of Placebo, Robert Smith of The Cure and Andy Biersack of Black Veil Brides.
